National World War II Memorial – The newest of the grand memorials around the area, this beautifully designed area honors the 16 million who served during WWII and those who supported the war effort from home. Highlights include two 43-foot arches, a 17-foot pillar for each state and territory from that period and a field of 4,000 gold stars honoring the more than 400,000 who died. A series of bronze sculpture panels depict Americans at war, at home and overseas. Located between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.

Vietnam Veterans Memorial – This most unique and moving memorial features the names of the more than 58,000 missing or dead carved into black granite wall. A bronze sculpture depicts three young servicemen representing all those who served during the conflict, while a flag flying 24 hours a day sits in a base with the seals of the five branches of the military.

Washington Monument – One of the most noticeable and oldest monuments, this giant obelisk rises 555 feet in the air and honors the first President of the United States. Tickets are required to enter the monument; free, same-day timed tickets are available at the 15th Street kiosk beginning at 8:30 a.m., or you can order tickets in advance with a $2.00 surcharge.
